The battle, move by move
With a steady hand, our hero brings the pawn to E3, and rat's king advances from E8 to D8. our hero advances the king from E1 to E2, while rat sets the pawn on E6, watching every square.
Without hurry or fear, our hero places the pawn on E4. From the dark, Rat pushes the pawn to E5; then our hero's king takes D3, leaving E2 behind.
Rat's pawn reaches C4 and threatens our hero's king.
From D3 to C4, our hero's king swallows Rat's pawn.
